Dr. Frank Buchanan

Specialist Anaesthetist and interventional Pain physician

Dr. Frank Buchanan is a Melbourne based anaesthetist, medical acupuncturist and interventional pain medicine physician. After graduating in medicine from Monash University, Frank undertook anaesthesia training at the Alfred Hospital. Since gaining his Fellowship from the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, he has been involved in both public and private practice, mainly specialising in orthopaedic and gynaecological surgery and the management of chronic pain. 

Frank is actively involved in anaesthetic and pain research having published in numerous peer-reviewed anaesthetic and pain journals and been a guest reviewer for the British Journal of Anaesthesia. He is a member of numerous associations including the Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA), the Australian Pain Society, the Australian Medical Acupuncture College (AMAC), the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), the International Neuromodulation Society (INS), the International Pelvic Pain Society (IPPS) and the World Institute of Pain (WIP).  He has also previously been a research fellow at the anaesthetic departments of the Mercy Hospital for Women and the Alfred Hospital and is a member of the Acute Pain Special Interest Group of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. He has also authored several chapters in the current edition of Acute Pain Management: the Scientific Evidence published by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
